Ingredients and Substitutions

  1. Pink Candy Melts
    • These create the colorful base for the hearts and are easy to melt and work with. If you don’t have pink candy melts, you can use white candy melts or white chocolate chips and add a few drops of pink gel food coloring to achieve a similar hue.
  2. White Candy Melts
    • Used for drizzling and decoration, they add a nice contrast to the pink base. White chocolate chips or almond bark can also work here, but be sure to temper them if you want a glossy finish.
  3. Hot Chocolate Mix
    • This provides the rich cocoa flavor inside the bomb. Store-bought hot chocolate mix works perfectly, but you can also make your own by combining cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and a pinch of salt. For added variety, flavored mixes like mint or caramel hot chocolate are great options.
  4. Mini Marshmallows
    • These are essential for that classic hot chocolate bomb experience when they pop out of the heart and float in the milk. Dehydrated marshmallow bits can be used for a crunchier texture or if you want a more compact filling.
  5. Heart-Shaped Silicone Mold
    • This is key to creating the signature heart shape. If you don’t have a heart-shaped mold, other silicone molds like spheres or squares can be used, though the final product will differ in appearance. Silicone molds are best for easy removal without breaking the chocolate.
